The History of Franklin, TN

The city of Franklin was named after Benjamin Franklin by Abram Maury Jr. in 1799. The first home in the area was built by Ewen Cameron who moved from Virginia to Tennessee after emigrating to America from Scotland. Cameron’s descendants have lived in the Franklin area ever since the old log house was built. 

The historic Battle of Franklin occurred on November 30th 1864. It resulted in nearly ten thousand casualties and caused forty-four local buildings in the area to be converted into field hospitals for the wounded.
